After being a background artist for Big Fish Games for many years, I moved into the realm of user interface art for Mystery Case Files, Hidden Expedition, Dark Manor, Fairway Blast and Fairway Solitaire. Often (but not exclusively depending on the project) starting with wireframes and/or sketches, I created hint systems, pop up dialog boxes, cut scenes, borders, in-game ads, buttons, navigation panels and art assets inside those elements.
Fairway Solitaire Re-Vamp
To build new features and updating old sections for
the "legacy" game, Fairway Solitaire. We created new textures, buttons and interface assets, while still
staying cohesive with the older background art.
From wireframes drawn up by game designers,
I delivered concept art weekly to narrow down the
full layout of the new features (here showing Stamps). Seeing what we didn't want, was equally important as deciding our final look and feel.
Through multiple iterations, texture concepts, user testing and research, we were able to narrow down a final style for all the new features that were being slowly rolled out to players. In order to keep our core demographic, it was decided to keep some of the old UI buttons for player recognition in the final build.
